Heading from Kampala

To be fair to my nascent readers this is just a stop gap Had started with a story about Arusha hut it hadn’t flowed so that was time to go  We stayed at the convent in Kampala and travelled south. I remember a bucket wash after 2 weeks of no change and the water turning murky. We went to the carnival that is the bus stop- we were going to see gorillas. It was about 1991

The meeting of the waters  The dark and the light  The confluence and the confusion  Resolved without a fight  The journey continues  From the jungle to the sea         JUNTOS            O juntamento dos rios O escuridao e a luz A confusao e a bagunca Resolvida sem briga O passeio continuar Da floresta ate o mar      TOGETHER

Manaus para Belem on the boat

The trip from Manaus to Belem takes about 3 or 4 days by barco.   We had got to Manaus after a couple of weeks on fhe road taking the 24hr bus from Porto Velho. Thats a different story. We had stayed at some knocking shop not far from the opera house for a buck a night and then got on the navio. Bought a $7 rede (hammock) and that was us in 3rd class just getting on with everyone else going about their business. I remember the stop in Santarem. All the confusion and hustle -  bustle of a busy river port. I had my 18th birthday travelling down the Amazon. Hopefully Jeff Morris who i travelled with has some more detail. Watch this space. An extra detail of this time in space  Am sure we met these girls and sat on the upper deck Meanwhile the boat chugged its way down the river and each night on a dinner of beans and rice we traveled too . This was just a regular ship nothing to see here. A journey de 3 dias talvez mais, nada pra ver, nothing to see move on  Arusha...
